You may remember my earlier post on Team RWB – they are one of my favorite organizations and I am so passionate about their cause. Instead of solely focusing on fundraising efforts, Team RWB supports veterans by building relationships with them and nurturing them in their integration back into society. One of the organization’s missions is to enrich the lives of wounded veterans and their families through physical fitness – they use fitness to rebuild the body, give structure to life, bolster self-esteem, help process wartime experiences and connect veterans with active individuals.

Eusebio Collazo is a veteran who greatly benefited from the fitness aspect of Team RWB’s cause. Before joining the Marine Corps, he loved living a physically active lifestyle –however, after suffering multiple injuries in Iraq, he returned home only to be disheartened by his injuries and pain. After being encouraged by his counseling sessions to join Team RWB, his mindset changed. Team RWB assigned him a mentor that he could strongly relate to and invited him to be a part of the American Odyssey Relay Race 2012, a race that Collazo says “brought back many memories of my years in the military because of the camaraderie we shared.” He is now a very active member in the organization and states that he is “excited to be able to do something positive and therapeutic that involves [his] passion for running”.
