Vacation season is in full force, and though there’s no shortage of travel destinations around the country, picking a trip that’s perfect for both you and your family takes a bit of work. With thousands of theme parks, attractions and historical landmarks to choose from, planning a vacation can be overwhelming, so here are a few places that should be high on your list if you’re hitting the road this summer.

Orlando, FL
Central Florida is a number one pick for family-friendly destinations, and for good reason: The amount of theme parks and attractions within the city is astounding, and there’s no way you could ever visit them all in one trip! Whether you keep it traditional and go to Disney World or stop by one of the other theme parks, it’s hard not to have fun in this playful city.

The Grand Canyon
The Grand Canyon will always be a major family destination, and the gorgeous park should be on everyone’s list as a place to visit at least once. The hiking trails, camping options and river trips are just a few of the reasons why nearly five million people visit the natural wonder each year.

Should You Send Your Kids to Summer Camp?

San Francisco, CA
With cable cars, steep streets, beautiful wharfs and amazing food, this stunning city is full of famous landmarks that will impress both kids and grownups. The Golden Gate Bridge celebrates its 75th birthday this year, so expect celebrations marking the event to go on all summer long; just be sure to pencil in trips to the zoo, museums, Union Square and Ghirardelli Square.

Branson, MO
Though it doesn’t get as much attention as Orlando, Branson has entertained vacationing families for decades. Here you’ll find hundreds of live shows, outdoor activities and attractions ranging from a zip lining adventure to a Titanic exhibit. Now is the perfect time to go; 2012 also marks the city’s centennial.

Washington, DC
Washington, DC is definitely a great place to visit with the kids, especially if they’re a bit older and understand the town’s importance. From the iconic Lincoln Memorial, the Capitol building and the Washington Monument to the Smithsonian and the White House, there’s a fascinating landmark everywhere you go in DC! Visiting during an election year will make the trip even more memorable.

My family and I just returned to CA from S.Dakota to see Mt Rushmore. Awesome sight day and night! Attractions on the way from Rapid City were the Reptile Gardens and Bear Country! We all loved watching all the baby bears play! Town of Keystone near Mt Rushmore also has Nat'l Presidential wax museum. So much to see and enjoy in the USA!

The US is great - there's so many places to travel and such a variety of things you can do! This summer me and my friend are driving along the Pacific coast and visiting San Francisco, LA, San Diego and Vegas. I'm so excited! I would also love to visit Florida and go to Disney too - I'm just a big kid at heart!
