There’s always something magical about taking a run through Central Park in Manhattan. It’s a really great escape from the concrete jungle and more often than not you can get far enough into the park to forget you’re smack dab in the middle of one of the busiest cities in the world.
Running through the park is an opportunity to exercise, clear my head, and enjoy the scenery. You will see anyone and everything out and about, attempting to get their heart rate up. I love watching owners and their dogs go for jogs together or people zipping by on recumbent bicycles - even the occasional unicycle.
I see people who blow my mind with their strength, speed, and endurance. What’s more interesting is that sometimes these very people run through the park barefoot. Now that’s pretty hardcore, but I will keep my shoes on my feet, thank you very much! It is NYC after all.
Central Park has several loops that are specially geared for runners of varying levels and you can check out the maps at their user-friendly site. Even if you’re not going for a run, be sure to stay hydrated and take the time to stretch any time you engage in exercise, no matter how light. Once you do that, treat yourself to the vast greenery of the park and a never-ending supply of great people watching while you get in shape.
Have you ever visited Central Park or wanted to? If so, have you ever gone for a run there?
