How many products do you have hiding out in your medicine cabinet?
A recent study* shows that over one-third of women have more than 20 products stored in their medicine cabinet and more than one in every three women clean out their medicine cabinet less than once every two years. Still -- some admit to never having cleaned out their medicine cabinet at all.
That’s a little disconcerting. You wouldn’t just leave unknown food items hanging out in your fridge, so why would you leave unknown or expired product hanging around?
Here are five tips from Vaseline® Total Moisture® for taking back control of your medicine cabinet:
1. Choose products that serve multiple purposes. For example, 59% of women said the reason they own multiple lotions is that each serves a different purpose. With Vaseline® Total Moisture® lotion you get a product that really works but also feels and smells great when you put it on. So get products that consolidate functions, even items such as nail polish that doubles as a polish and a topcoat.
2. Put dates on the products stored in your medicine cabinet so that you can easily dispose of them when they reach their expiration.
3. Remove items that don’t belong in the medicine cabinet and store them in their proper location, such as perfumes. Side Note: It’s actually harmful to a fragrance to have it stored in your bathroom where it can be affected by the heat and humidity.
4. Be efficient and only store the items that you use most. You can store items that you use occasionally under the sink or in a drawer.
5. Be organized. For instance, use plastic containers to store smaller items, such as nail care supplies.
Happy Cleaning!

Yikes. I only clean out my medicine cabinet when we MOVE!! And prior to last year, we hadn't moved in 8 YEARS. I recently found prescription skin medication from about 7 years ago! Not to worry though, I tossed it immediately!!! -
I have never gone more than a couple months, clutter drives me nuts. But I unfortunately am guilty when it comes to having 20+ items in the cabinet. That doesn't even include the shower! The oldest item I found was a bottle of lotion that matched a perfume I loved. I guess I was always saving it for that right occasion that 6 years later hadn't occurred! -
I went 2 years without completely emptying my medicine drawer ( I keep my products under the sink) and I found my old curling kit from my cheerleading days that had an old bottle of hairspray in it that was probably almost 4 years old... haha Ooops! -
I clean mine out every 6 months. The oldest item I've ever found was out dated by 4 months. i do have an old glass bottle ,I found at my moms, after she passed away of " Iodine Tincture....Antiseptic...Poison" . Can't find a date on it. I of course wouldn't use it ( it has some left in it ), I kept it because I like collecting old bottles and spice tins. it's put WAY up away from my 4 children :) -
I haven't cleaned out my medicine cabinet in about three months. The oldest thing I found in my medicine cabinet was some expired Refresh Eye Drops and an old Glugacon tablet.
