Recently on “The View” my co-hosts and I discussed a wonderful website started by real women called the Goddess Gallery, showcasing real women and their post-baby bodies. The site’s homepage reads, “Your post-baby body is beautiful. Embrace it.”
I could not agree more! Here’s a clip from the show:
Everyday we are bombarded by images of celebrities flaunting their perfect post-baby bodies, just weeks after their delivery (or so it seems). It puts a pressure on everyone else to lose that post-baby weight as soon as possible too. However, we need to remember that the weight we hold onto after delivering a baby is completely normal. Your body needs a period of adjustment after your delivery and often that adjustment period means some r&r – not necessarily a beeline to the gym. Also, exercising too soon after having a baby can be harmful on your body: it can upset your recovering cortisol levels and delay your body’s external and internal healing.
That said, I’m a firm believer that it’s important to take care of your body by exercising it once you’re ready. For me, it took about six months before I was able to start doing all the physical activities I wanted to do. For others, it could be longer or shorter.
When it comes to your post baby body, it’s important toremember to listen to how you feel - not the pictures you see in magazines!
Did you feel pressure to lose your baby weight quickly?
