Sounds like the books WERE banned. Can't get them at your library = banned at your library. Very simply to understand. -

Banning books, by definition, is when the Government of the state or nation bans the writing and/or publishing of a book. This is not done in America. Libraries have the authority, with limited dollars, to choose books to purchase. They do this all the time. Librarians use discernment in how they spend their budget and in selecting books that are age appropriate. It is a selection process that is done constantly. When someone feels a book they like has been passed over it suddenly becomes BOOK BANNING! -
They WERE not banned. You just can't get them at some libraries in Florida. They are available, I'm sure at otber libraries, on Amazon, and in bookstores. If people want to read them, they can get them elsewhere. -
I believe it is absolutely wrong for libraries to ban books in 2012! If there are books that people feel are not appropriate for children, it should be a parent's discretion to allow their child to read it or not. Books are a freedom of speech and everyone's opinion should be heard. -
As I just tweeted, the books were not BANNED. A Head Librarian has the authority to remove a book from their shelves if they feel the books violate their library's policies. As a responsible television personality, you should avoid using pejorative words that make a controversial situation worse. Thank you.
