Back to School: Seven G-Free Snacks to Pack for Your Kids

Aug 7, 2012 at 6:05am by Elisabeth Hasselbeck

Summer seemed to fly by and now it’s already time to start planning for back-to-school! I like to keep my kids healthy and energized throughout the school day by packing them nutritious, fun snacks in their lunchbox.  These ideas are all gluten-free, so they’re perfect if you want yummy snacks for your G-free little ones or if you just want your kids to have some healthy food options throughout the day.

1.) Rice Cakes with Apple Butter

Rice cakes are a G-free go-to, but kids can find them a little plain.  Add some apple butter for a delicious way to sweeten them up in a healthy way.  Orgran Gluten Free Toasted Rice Crispibreads from GlutenFreely.com are a good option!

2.) Fresh Fruit Kebabs

This is a fun and easy way to make eating fruit fun - use mini skewers and add fruit of your choice, kebab style.  Make sure to cut off the pointy ends of the skewers for safety and add a squeeze of lemon to keep the fruit fresh!

3.) Carrots and Hummus

Carrots and hummus are a healthy and delicious duo, perfect for snacking. You can also pack other veggies like celery and sliced peppers –they are delicious with hummus as well!

4.) Hardboiled Egg

There’s no better way to pack a protein punch than with a hardboiled egg.  Hardboiled eggs are loaded with Vitamin A and selenium, a mineral essential for regulation of thyroid hormones and supportive of the antioxidant function of vitamins C and E.  Sprinkle on some pepper and salt for a little extra flavor.  Make sure to only pack this snack once or twice a week to limit cholesterol intake.

5.) Cucumber Mini Sandwiches

Kids love this fun and delicious snack! Just layer small pieces of meat and cheese between cucumber slices for an easy way to get veggies, dairy and meat in just one bite.  Slide a toothpick through so they don’t fall apart in the lunchbox.

6.) NoGiiKids Bar
